Pyrmont Bridge Restoration Economic analysis

The Pyrmont Bridge is one of Sydney's iconic harbourside locations and is integral to Sydney's cultural and economic landscape, attracting millions of visitors annually. Its restoration is the responsibility of Placemaking NSW, who sought Polis Partners’ assistance in assessing the economic and financial case for the restoration project.

The Pyrmont Bridge requires restoration to meet contemporary structural standards. It is a crucial pedestrian and cyclist link between Pyrmont and Sydney's CBD, serving over 16,000 users daily. In addition, its heritage status (which is protected under the NSW Heritage Register and the Heritage Act 1998), necessitates restoration to preserve its historical and cultural significance.

As part of our analysis, Polis Partners evaluated three restoration options, quantifying benefits including commuter time savings, heritage value, infrastructure resilience, and extended asset life for each option. Our cost-benefit analysis (CBA) supported a business case to Government and provided the specific inputs for the economic and financial sections, enabling Placemaking NSW to successfully secure government funding for the restoration project.
