The Challenge

The AEC is responsible for maintaining the electoral roll, delivering federal elections and referendums, and regulating political party disclosures. Following the 2022 federal election, the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters recommended substantial reforms to improve transparency and accountability. Implementing these reforms would require modern, scalable ICT systems and strengthened communication and training capabilities to support new regulatory obligations.

The Action

Polis Partners worked closely with the AEC to develop a Combined Pass ICT Business Case, assessing and costing a range of technology and capability uplift options. The business case outlined how modernised platforms and enhanced business processes would support potential legislative and administrative reforms.

The Results

The draft business case presented a clear case for change and provided the evidence base to support Government investment in modern, fit-for-purpose ICT infrastructure for the AEC to operationalise the legislative reforms.
